Mortgage Industry: File a Complaint
Six years is the length of time the mortgage broker/lender is required by state law to retain their records. If you have a complaint and your home loan was closed within the past six years, the Financial Institutions Division (FID) can work to resolve issues falling under its jurisdiction.
If your complaint is with a national bank, federal savings bank and federal credit union you will be referred to the appropriate agency to file your complaint.
Follow these Procedures to enable us to resolve your complaint:
- Before filing your complaint, you must call the Financial Institutions Division and speak to the industry manager or a mortgage examiner (see contact page for contact information) to find out whether your complaint is within FID’s jurisdiction.
- If your complaint is not within FID’s jurisdiction, you will be given information about where to direct your complaint. If your complaint is within FID’s jurisdiction, you must fill out a complaint form.
- Completely fill out the complaint form, attach all documentation relating to your compliant, and mail or fax your complaint to the appropriate office. Do not include original documents. Send copies only.
