Barbers and Cosmetologists Overview
The Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists regulates Barbers, Cosmetologists, Esthetician, Electrologist, Hairdressers, Manicurists/Pedicurists Licensed Establishments and Board Approved Schools. It sets professional, training and hygienic standards to ensure customers receive quality services.
The Board also investigates complaints from customers and takes appropriate disciplinary actions when acceptable and required standards are violated.
SCAM ALERT
A scam artist is targeting nail salons by asking for money to clear your inspection and allow your shop to stay open. If you refuse to pay, the individual threatens to file papers in court. They send fraudulent letters and legal documents that look official.
To prevent being victimized by this scam, please note:
- RLD inspectors will never ask for a cash payment, a money order, or a money card.
- RLD inspectors will never demand immediate payment.
- You will always have an opportunity to appear before the Board.
- Inspectors will always have official RLD identification.
- If you are contacted by anyone claiming to work for RLD and you’re not absolutely certain who the individual is, please call the Board compliance office immediately at (505) 476-4622 and ask for Compliance.
